The language of authentic love

“If you talk to a man in a language he understands, that goes to his head. If you talk to him in his own language, that goes to his heart.”

Nelson Madela

From living in the Philippines to moving in Central America is a huge cross cultural jump, while I find latinos very near to Philippine culture it would be safe for me to not assume completely that the culture here is same as mine.

language connect us to people, as a messenger of the gospel and eternal hope, learning the language is my priority to be able to connect and comunicate the message of Jesus.

I invested in expensive intensive spanish classes, which paid off really well and fast track my capacity to understand and speak the langauge.

So I thought, that was enough. Months later a couple of friends had arrive as well, we are here to know and meet the students of Panama and share the love of Jesus. Help them grow in their relationship with Jesus.

As my friend Toffer, full of joy, life, and energy, right away jump off meeting with students, while he wasn’t speaking the language at that time yet, I learned from him that more than being able to communicate in their langauge, nothing beats the language of authentic love and care, enormous curiosity which made him very fruitful in gaining friends and winning locals for Christ.

His life reminded me, that more than words I can speak, it is the act of loving, offering authentic friendships, and humility towards people we seek to preach the gospel is the way to go.

Despite the little capacity to speak spanish, he spoke and act a universal language we all can speak and act, the aunthentic language of genuine love and intentionality for the people. I was caught up of aquiring the language, I was missing out this as aspect. Thank God for Toffer demonstrating this act.

Feeling vs. Facts

Daily Ponder: #021

Life can be filled and met with frustrations and struggles. I don’t know what challenges you are experiencing, the depth nor darkness you might feel you are in. It is my prayer that this thought today would be of help.

Your feelings are valid! It is real! I remind myself this and recognize my humanity. Never invalidate that. We need to pay attention to what are our emotions is saying to us. It is an invitation to ourselves for a self talk. Permit yourself to feel and experience that moment, don’t be afraid, explore and discover this emotions.

However…. Yes…. However..

We also need to come to terms to a greater reality and a greater truth. We can’t afford to be stock in a pit of emotions. We can’t let is as well over rule us. We need to see beyond the feeling and labels we attach in it. We need to seek a bigger perspective, a way out of ourselves, or of our own world. Seeking a different perspective and a different voice. You don’t need to rush in it nor force yourself.

We need the brutal facts! It can go against our egos, pride and arrogance. Brutal facts are coming to terms that we can be very wrong, that we magnified something so little we made it into a monster. You may not want to hear it, you may not want to recognize it, but you know deep inside you will come to it one day.

I respect space and phase, I remind myself that actually. Moving to facts takes phasing, some takes slowly, some takes it faster. May you enjoy the learning, may you be merciful towards yourself, may you be forgiving and accepting towards your shortcomings. Permit yourself the time you need. What matters is you are moving to the grater truth and greater facts.

There is a hope, a future and a life. There is healing and growth. There is a light in every darkness. You are not hopeless. You are valued. You have a purpose. You are a blessing to humanity.

Daily Ponder: #019

Those whom I love I rebuke and discipline. So be earnest and repent.

Revelation 3:19 NIV

As I went through the Book of Revelations today at chapter 3 verse 9. I was reminded of how love operate in our lives and in our community.

Love does not tolerate what is wrong, rather out of love it addresses issues that does not please the other. In this case, the issues was that the people of faith in laodica was neither cold or hot. this is where the rebuke came from. Hence an invitation to repentance.

Love invites us to change that leads to repentance. Godly love will always bring the best in us that transforms us to Christ-likeness. Biblically we are to transform into the character of Christ.

Repentance is also a fruit of love, because of it’s genuine intention and motivation that springs from a revelation of God.

Daily Ponder : The Love you have lost

#018

Yet I hold this against you: You have forsaken the love you had at first.Consider how far you have fallen! Repent and do the things you did at first. If you do not repent, I will come to you and remove your lampstand from its place.

Revelation 2:4-5 NIV

The Love you had first

One of the interpretation is that Ephesus had lost its early love for Christ. Another interpretation is that Ephesian believers had lost its love for one another and needed to revive compassionate works they did at first. Many interpreters think both are in view, since love for christ and love for one another is related.

ESV STUDY BIBLE COMMENTARY

My thoughts:

Our tendency to lost our love for Christ, over theological knowledge and wisdom is one of the many battle a Christian has to weight in and check our hearts carefully. We can be passionately zealous for the mission, for the ministry, for evangelism, public ministry and have a heart so far from Christ is a pity.

On another extreme, we have lost grace towards fellow believers on their failings, shortcomings and probably their convictions aren’t satisfying enough on our eyes. The community becomes dry of love when to much driven on working and no loving relationship exist.

Our love for Christ, over flows in our relationships and community. We will always be in a heart check, knowing our sinful tendency, But praise be to God for His grace in our lives that enables us to repent and go back to our first love. Jesus Christ.

Daily Ponder: #014 Who is it that overcomes?

One of the message taught in the book of 1 John is the love of God and loving His people. And that loving in action shows obedience to God. Imagine if indeed every Christian actually do that, Christians are walking vessels of love, grace, mercy, healing, restoration and a lot more.

I continue to ponder on 1 John and let me share this below. I believe it is very clear and the message is enough.

For everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith.

1 John 5:4 NIV

Genuine Christians are not defeated by the world’s hostility or compelled by it to turn from Christ.

Who is it that overcomes the world? Only the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God.

1 John 5:5 NIV

My friend, if you are reading this It is my hope that you will come to know Christ and anchor your life on Him. He loves you and care for you. He is gentle and kind, He will not disappoint you as your trust in Him.

Daily Ponder: We love because

#013 May these words speaks loudly in your life.

This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him.

1 John 4:9 NIV

This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins

1 John 4:10 NIV

No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us.

1 John 4:12 NIV

If anyone acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God, God lives in them and they in God.

1 John 4:15 NIV

There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.

1 John 4:18 NIV

We love because he first loved us. – 1 John 4:19

Daily Ponder: Great love and loving one another

#012

See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him.

1 JOHN 3:1 NIV

See what great love the Father has lavished on us…”

Today’s pondering continues on the book of 1 John. This letter was addressing a group of believers who where in the midst of unsettling situation. The original recipients are believers and is addressing what is happening in the community.

What really caught me is the word “See” … with your eyes, with eyes wide open. Not every who have eyes can actually see. See the greater reality, the greater truth, but in this case The love that is greatly lavish by God on us.

The Great love of the Father…. God’s great love poured upon us, God is love and God is Just. In his justice sins in our lives are unacceptable. We are actually enemies of GOD come to think of it, for we live lives of sins, for Justice to be met, Jesus took our place to be punished and gave us His righteousness, giving us forgiveness of sins and salvation as we put our faith in Him. This gift enabled us to be children.

We are children of God that is who we are. We are now recipients of His lavish love, because of Christ.

God gave us a command, To believe in Christ and to Love one another.

And this is his command: to believe in the name of his Son, Jesus Christ, and to love one another as he commanded us.

1 John 3:23

LOVE ONE ANOTHER!

Love is an action inevitable to those who believe in Christ.

Love is action is the command among the children of God.

Love is the marker of God’s children.

Loved people, love people.

Daily Ponder: #009 Questions

Have you ever prayed for the love of God to be manifested? To be felt by you? While you may know mentally that you are loved and accepted it may seem that the heart yearns for it to be felt. It may feel empty.

Have you ever consider taking time to reflect how God uses people to fill that love? That God causes people to move or do acts of caring for you?

Have you been vulnerable and the people with you responded with grace and love?

Have you ever made a list of all the possible good you are experiencing despite the present challenges?

These things we need to ask ourselves, these thing we need to ponder. How is the love of God manifested in your life?

Do we have him in a box? In our set of expectations? Because these can possibly blind us from seeing how He is manifesting His love and care?

What else can hinder? Would it be possible we are nurturing anger, bitterness and un-forgiveness? how much more is greed and pride?

If we truly desire to experience His love, it takes a humble heart to ask for it, have it His way and show the potential hinderances and act on obedience.

While there are situations of extreme, while you might be in, it can never negate the presence of His Love.

Sometimes, We are more hard on ourselves… the subconscious words we accept and say to ourselves. This can be “I am are not worthy”, ” I am a bad person”, ” I am filthy” “I am ugly”. and so many more self declarations.

Whatever it may be, My prayer for you is that 2022 will be your year of knowing more and experiencing the love of God in Christ.

Loveless. Clueless.?

Being single is a wonderful and joyful season. It’s a God given gift, a blessing and season worth enjoying while the vision of marriage awaits.

Unfortunately, for some, it’s more like a curse or a season to be forsaken. But why would they feel this way? What are the factors affecting? Here are just some of the few:

  • They feel that they are left out, when all their friends are getting engage or getting married.
  • They feel alone, and needs a partner to be with.
  • For some, being in a relationship, makes them complete, it gives them value and identity.
  • Sadly, one factor is influence surrounding them. Most popular Filipino television shows , movies and media speaks too much of relationships and romance.
  •  Another factor is the peers. When friends and family you expect to empower and encourage you in your season, seems to devalue you by making fun of your singleness with endless teasing. They may not entirely be pressuring you into a relationship, but it does communicates it in a million ways.

Let me share to you some of my take home from the staff summit last October and my insights.

Singleness is not  a purgatory  as if your waiting for heaven                                                                                        – Alex & Mitch Compton

Like what they have said, it is not a purgatory state, singleness is worth celebrating and rejoicing. When we are so fixed to being in a relationship or to getting married, it will not get you anywhere.

When we fail to see the value of our season, we fail to see and experience God’s wonderful gift for the season. It’s like rejecting a gift and wanting another. Everything is beautiful in its time. Maximize the season that is on your plate, or else you will miss out what’s given to you.

You are perfectly placed where you are, where God’s wants you to be. It’s not an accident. God knows exactly your every need down to the core of your heart and soul. Like Adam, He knows you need a suitable partner.

How are you going to be aware of the maximum value of our season? Here’s what Alex and Mitch Compton shared.

Intimacy with God is foundational and  fundamental, Set aside time to be with God, Time that you have right now is valuable. enjoy the season with greater delight and intimacy with our maker, There’s no way we can maximize our singleness aside from the presence of God. If we don’t have time now in word, prayer and spending time with our heavenly Father,  how much more when we have family and kids.

Develop and grew that relationship with Jesus. Out of our intimacy, God gives our identity. It’s not a man or woman  that can validate your being, only God.

As we grow in intimacy, God reveals to us his vision for the season. Our ability to hear Him clearly secures us in our season. As His word is forged into our hearts, we stand secure into his promises and to His unfailing character.
